WER Board of Trustees

WER has a board of trustees who are responsible for the direction and development of the charity.

Dr Harry Covert Jnr   Chair

WER'S Chairman is an ordained minister involved in international humanitarian work for over 20 years. Publisher of The Covert Letter and Spirit Lifters, Dr Covert Jnr has also been cited for his efforts to win the release of 23 captured United Nations relief workers in Africa.

Ms Margaret Edwards  Vice-Chair

Ms Edwards joined the WER board in 2003, bringing many years of experience in education. After spending substantial time in Kenya as a teacher, Ms Edwards was more recently Headmistress of Wallington Girls High School in Surrey.

Mr Charles M Watkins, Esq.  Treasurer

Mr Watkins brings to WER UK his legal experience in management of charitable efforts, along with international relations between charities and governments. An attorney with Webster, Chamberlain & Bean of Washington D.C., Mr Watkins is a regular speaker and columnist for numerous charity management groups.

Elizabeth Laskar

A Founder of the Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF), Ms Laskar now consults on ethical sourcing and business development. She has been working in the non profit sector for 12 years with particular focus on fair trade and sustainability in the fashion sector.  Ms Laskar is passionate about young people and sits on the international steering committee for the Young Leaders Integrity Alliance (YLIA).   She has also sits on the Board of an International woman's ministry - A Woman's Call.
 
Ms Laskar bring sustainability awareness and media experience to the team including experience with television, photography and print media.
 

Nick Pettingale

Mr Pettingale is formerly a Graphic Designer, specialising in company branding and point of sale material for businesses across Europe and has also been on the board of three national and international companies.

He has previously established two charities in Ethiopia and a UK charity working with disadvantaged young people in the Midlands.  Most recently Mr Pettingale has set up a charitable foundation at Stamford Endowed Schools in Lincolnshire.  Mr Pettingale remains passionate about issues of justice and social inclusion.

Alex Botha

Mr Botha is currently the Deputy Chief Executive of Homeless Link, the national umbrella body for the homelessness sector in England. Mr Botha is involved with a range of charities on an advisory capacity and has broad work experience in professional services and investment banking. Mr Botha also contributes skills he gained training as a chartered accountant and undertaking a Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Development Management. Mr Botha is passionate about helping children in poverty.
