WER works in close partnership with local organisations to develop long-term strategies to improve the lives of children, their families and communities. We always work with local people who understand the needs of their communities at grassroots level and we build local capacity by developing local management and accountability systems to monitor ongoing project work.
We currently fund a range of development projects which cover the following areas:
WER is keen for local partner organisations to network and to share ideas and expertise in the field. By promoting south-south partnership, WER enables local capacity to develop more effectively. Local people are empowered as they build the future for their children.
WER is quick to respond to crisis situations around the world and recognises the desperate need of people during times of instability. We have a history of sourcing appropriate Gifts in Kind (GIK) and delivering emergency relief supplies during war, famine, drought and humanitarian emergencies. We work together with other agencies to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of our response. Aid is delivered to those in greatest need, regardless of ethnic origin, race, colour or religious beliefs.
Gifts in Kind (GIK) are quality donated goods which we send to our overseas partners. In discussion with our project partners and local humanitarian and development agencies, WER assesses the needs and requests of communities in need and seeks to source the required goods. These requests are also matched with offers we receive from manufacturers and wholesalers throughout the world. GIK from WER varies according to local needs but typically includes quality goods such as clothing, educational materials, food & shelter provision and medicines & medical supplies. Donations to communities in need often go hand in hand with longterm development projects within the community to ensure that all donated goods can be of maximum benefit to those most in need.
WER is a member of BOND, Global Hand, Grow Up Free From Poverty and other networks and coalition groups which seek to raise awareness of child poverty, disability, international aid and development. We believe in advocating on behalf of our partners to institutions in the UK to encourage the implementation of policies which will be of benefit to the development programmes we are engaged with around the world.
