Vocational training college

Unlike the south of Uganda, the north has seen very little development due to conflict and instability. But now there is peace and families are beginning to return. They must rebuild houses, public buildings and roads, and develop farmland. There is government money available but a skilled workforce is needed.  Training local people to fill this need will also boost the local economy.

WER is supporting  a vocational training college in Lira, northern Uganda.

The vocational college, which currently has 450 students, has been running for 10 years and is a well-established institution. It offers young people the chance to learn skills such as plumbing, bricklaying, car mechanics and tailoring.

The college is run by WER’s partner ANCC Uganda.  WER has provided equipment including chisels, pillar drills, lathes, screwdrivers, soldering irons and saws for metal and woodwork along with general teaching aids including, stationary, projectors, books, and training videos.

The donated items have enriched the students learning.  WER will continue to work with ANCC, supporting projects at the college, giving young people in northern Uganda a chance to learn new skills.
