HOPE Worldwide is a faith-based organisation that has been caring for children in poor communities in the Philippines since 1993. The primary focus of their work is the protection of vulnerable children, particularly those at risk from sexual abuse. WER partnered with Hope Worldwide to provide a Mobile Puppet Theatre (MPT) that has proved to be a successful means of informing and educating children and adults of the dangers of sexual abuse.
The MPT performs puppet shows to public schools, youth organisations and on the streets. It has reached over 7,000 young people and is indirectly reaching more than 3,000 parents. The puppet show teaches about ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’, and the 8 rules for safety. The MPT allows space for group discussion and trained volunteers are involved to offer support to children and to direct them to counselling and support systems if needed.
