Mission Statement
World Emergency Relief is a non-denominational, global fellowship
of Christians, working together, and with others, to help
people in need. Underlying World Emergency Relief’s
efforts are God’s love for this WORLD He created, the
physical, emotional, spiritual, social and economic EMERGENCIES
afflicting millions, and the RELIEF we can bring to hurting
people, especially children, thanks to God’s unending
mercy coupled with the generosity of our donors.
About Us
World Emergency Relief, a UK registered charity, is working
with local partners in over 25 countries to bring hope and
practical help to those in need.
“Poverty kills one child every three seconds.”
WER recognises that poverty is an economic emergency that
adversely affects millions around the world, leaving many
children with little hope for their future.
Through our work we are helping to bring hope for the future
to children, their families, and communities.
- Our vision is based on our Christian faith as we
seek to give children a living chance.
- Our focus is CHILDREN, their families and communities.
- Our outreach is global, working in partnership with
local people who have first hand experience of the needs at
grassroots level.
- Our resources are carefully targeted, encouraging
the participation of local leaders and people to help develop
local solutions to their needs.
History
The Visionary and Founder of World Emergency Relief is Reverend Joel MacCollam. WER was first established in the United States in the mid 1980s, prompting donors to give to the needs of children across the world. World Emergency Relief was established as a UK charity in 1995, and there are now WER Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Germany, Holland and Hong Kong.
Since its inception in the UK, WER has made a phenomenal difference to the lives of children in the developing world.
Alex Haxton, Director of Operations, speaks movingly of the work that World Emergency Relief has achieved since its beginnings in the mid nineties.
"Although we are a relatively new charity in the UK we have a breadth of history in the field and are enriched by the global family from which we have evolved. Since I joined WER I have visited projects on every continent including Burundi, DR Congo, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya, Romania, Rwanda and Senegal. I have witnessed first hand the difference that the support of our donors has and is continuing to make to the lives of children. It is a challenge and a privilege as WER seeks to bring HOPE, but I am filled with hope and grateful for the opportunity we have to work alongside those who are looking for help."
